Here is your biweekly newsletter. This is a special edition because September is Suicide Prevention Month, this is National Suicide Prevention Week, and today is Global Suicide Prevention Day. Wear green for suicide prevention. Remember that We All Play a Role! There are actions we can all take to #BeThere and #BeThe1To save a life. Below are ideas for action and upcoming events. Suicide Prevention Month Events

TONIGHT, 6:00-8:00 p.m. – “Black Men Don’t Jump: Black Men, Mental Health, & Suicide” – hosted by MIRACLE Mental Health at Progressive Baptist Church (8324 W. Keefe Ave.) Free community conversation. Call (414) 731-4200 for more information and see the attached flyer.
QPR (question, persuade and refer) Training. Learn the 3 simple steps to save a life. Trainings are offered 5:30-7:00 p.m. on September 11th, 13th, 18th, & 20that the Tannery Building Conference Room (700 W Virginia St.)
Attend the fundraiser for Prevent Suicide Greater Milwaukee at MOD Pizza (4151 N Oakland Ave, Shorewood, WI 53211) on September 12th. Show the attached flyer so that 20% of your bill goes to support PSGM.
On Friday, Sept. 14, PSGM will host their quarterly meeting at IndependenceFirst (540 S. 1st Street) from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m.

Opportunities and Deadlines This Week

TODAY, Monday, Sept. 10 – Nominate an organization for the Marquette University Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion Community Organization Award. theresa.kuehl
FORGE, a national transgender anti-violence organization federally funded to provide training and technical assistance to victim service providers, is providing two free trainings this September:
- Thursday, Sept. 13 – Long-Term Services to Trans Survivors – learn how to provide appropriate and respectful care for transgender and non-binary victims of crime. 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; lunch is NOT provided. Register here.
- Friday, Sept. 14 – Urgent Care and Crisis Response to Trans Survivors: 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. training for crisis advocates; shelter intake staff; rape crisis and other hotline staff; and receptionists and front-line staff at sexual assault, domestic violence, or other crime victim services offices, health care providers and therapists. Friday, Sept. 14 – 8:30-10:30 a.m. – Leadership Briefing on Advocacy and Nonprofits at YWCA Southeast Wisconsin (1915 N Doctor M.L.K. Jr Dr.) If your organization is interested in becoming more actively engaged in policy and advocacy work, we encourage you to attend this session along with staff and Board members. Sunday was Grandparents Day! Let us remember to build bridges across generations and especially recognize the ways that grandparents are stepping back into the parenting role or stepping up in the community. The Alliance for Strong Families and Communities recently wrote an article on Second Acts in Education and the Grandparent Connection
Please complete and share the WI Disability Vote Coalition Voting Survey. The coalition is conducting a survey to learn more about voter experiences in Wisconsin during the August 14, 2018 primary election. They are interested in accessibility and disability voter access at the polls. They want to hear from voters with disabilities, older adults, and others who may have relevant experience regarding accessibility at the polls, such as family members, service providers, and disability advocates. You will be able to view the results of the survey later this fall; the results will help us to have a clearer picture of what the accessibility issues are for Wisconsin voters with disabilities and how they feel about their voting experiences. · Director of Community Crisis Services at Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division. Milwaukee County is also looking for a Child Psychiatrist, Bilingual Human Services Worker, and RNs

· Community Mobilization Manager at Greater Milwaukee Foundation/ Milwaukee Succeeds. This position is responsible for building the capacity and capabilities for authentic community engagement and mobilization to address systems-level barriers that prevent Wisconsin families from accessing high quality early childcare and education (birth to 8).

· Equity Consultant at Wisconsin Maternal and Child Health Program – apply by Sept. 17

· PEACE Educator at Interfaith. The PEACE Program provides trauma-informed care for students with coaching for their teachers
